About me
“My studio is the refuge where I use painting to unravel life’s confusion.”
I paint people. I find them endlessly fascinating. They have always been my inspiration. I create imagery based on my experience of us - of humanity. By painting I hope to unravel my life’s confusion and figure out why some experiences distress, intrigue, or sometimes amuse, me. My life presents me with emotional and intellectual challenges and in an attempt to cope, or make sense of them, I try and come up with imagery that explores, or expresses, them. Nothing is real - they are like visual metaphors , totally constructed by me from my imagination. I am trying to find something out, not trying to tell you anything,
It might help to see the paintings as “stills” from a film Choosing the one image arising out of my internal narrative is like selecting the poster for a movie - it has to express the essence of a rambling epic.
I don’t know how what I do relates to contemporary art and frankly I don’t care. My creative process is unquestionably self-centred in that I do it for myself - not to please, or appease, others.
